If you are in a place, #4: Frank Pinello Makes Pizza

How-To: Make Homemade Pizza with Frank Pinello - YouTube

Frank Pinello Makes Pizza

If you are in a place, watch Frank Pinello make a homemade pizza. Okay, this is a weird one, but walk with me. One of the concrete things that typically helps me ease anxiety is doing something methodical. This might mean cleaning my house. Making my bed. Folding my laundry. Washing dishes (Yes, I love washing dishes). But nothing works in this area as much as cooking.

However, I’m not an freeform cook. I am a methodical cook. I find a recipe. I make it exactly as it says. I don’t like modifications or artistry or adjustments to my taste. I like a check list. Instructions. A product I can work towards that I know will be consistent. This calms my brain like nothing else because it gives me something to hyper-focus on when my my mind becomes a mess of over-focusing on everything.

So why this video? #1. What an easy and delicious recipe to follow and make at home (the dough is hard to get right, but so fun to make). #2. Frank Pinello is my pizza hero. He hosts the Pizza Show on Munchies (literally every episode is good). He owns Best Pizza in Brooklyn and also helped launch Prime Pizza here in LA, my new favorite pizza place (OMG, the grandma slice). His demeanor is so collected, his voice so calming. I’ve watched this video about twelve times and only actually made the recipe twice.

It’s just relaxing. Because what better for your mind than watching someone do something they so clearly love? What better for your mind than to be taught something new?
